We have given you many reasons to visit Potsdam, as it has been a tremendously surprising city throughout its history. However, for whatever reason you’re visiting the city (and we already know there are plenty of reasons why you’re doing so), you’re going to need to stop at some point to eat, so below we’ll recommend a number of restaurants, cafes , bars, beer gardens and even ice cream parlors to suit all budgets. In this way you will no longer have any excuse not to spend the whole day in the city of palaces, spies or movies.
So go ahead with this list.
1. Zur Linde
Our second recommendation is also a place that meets all our standards, it is a small Italian kitchen, with very good prices and flavors. We recommend it for its location and because we know that not all palates are so prepared for local German cuisine, so this place is a very good option for your pocket. We recommend their mozzarella di Bufala pizza, but above all stay for dessert to enjoy an incredible tiramisu, as you won’t regret it.
The first on our list, of course, is related to the local gastronomy, we are referring to the German and Brandenburg’s own.
The Zur Linde restaurant located in the heart of the city (a few steps from the Brandenburger straße pedestrian promenade) offers local food at very good prices, reason enough to regularly meet the local citizens of Potsdam trying the famous pork knuckle or leg (which is the zero zone between the ankle and the knees of its legs), which in this region of Germany is known as “eisbein” (in Bavaria, for example as “haxe”) and can be eaten cooked (“gekocht”) , roasted (“gegrillt”) or fried (“gebraten”) with the usual side dishes of mashed or potatoes, vegetables, bread and mustard. Obviously you will find a wide variety of sausages (“wurst”), white asparagus from Brandenburg and pickles from the Spreewald area, all accompanied of course by the enormous range of potatoes or potatoes from the area.
So this is one of our favorites for price, location and variety.

We must warn you now that you must pay with cash, since this restaurant does not accept card payments. Surely you must already know that in areas of Berlin and Brandenburg this is not strange at all, so this warning is addressed to many of your panoramas.
Grosse Weinmeisterstraße. 43B am Pfingstberg
This restaurant also remains a favorite among the citizens of Potsdam, it is a regular for families who prefer local food and leave the city center to take advantage of one of the best views of the city from its height on Mount Pfingstberg. Again, our recommendation continues to be to take advantage of the eisbein with all the specialty and wide range of potatoes from the Brandenburg area.
If you are visiting the Cecilienhof Palace, Alexandrowka or its surroundings (our must-have recommendations for this area!), you can easily go to this place and then continue enjoying yourself with the recommendation that we will give you below and, thus, have a whole day in this area.
We must also warn you from now on, that on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays this restaurant is unfortunately closed (… you know, local customs…).
This brewery has one of the best locations in the city facing the Havel River and just a few steps from our previous recommendation, so you can easily join this point within your route, to end your day here. We are not only left with its beautiful views, but also with a wide range of beers in the purest style of German beer gardens (“biergarten”). Of course you can find the local Potsdamer Stinge beer: “Ich möchte ein Postdamer Stange Bier, bitte!” (“I want a beer please”), which dates back to 1716. You will also find several local dishes, but in our opinion, they are not the best on the list and we stick with their variety of beers.
We must also warn you from now on, that on Mondays and Tuesdays this brewery is closed, but the rest of the days, go for it!
This “Mill House” has an excellent location next to the Sanssouci Palace and the only surviving mill from the 18th century Dutch migration era. In this cafeteria we find a very good coffee and again various types and brands of beer. However, his biggest surprise comes when we try one of his sandwiches or rolls, all made with the flour obtained from the mill next to him, the only one that is still in operation! So go ahead because the service is also extremely friendly and welcoming.
We recommend this “Flying Dutchman” because it is located in one of our favorite places in the city: the famous “Dutch Quarter”. When you enter this architectural complex of 134 houses built in these 4 blocks you are transported to Amsterdam or Rotterdam in the Netherlands and the only thing you want is to stay there a while longer. We select for you the essential of the area, right in the center of all this neighborhood with the best views and atmosphere, although we must indicate from now on that its prices are not the lowest, we love its variety of options in its menu, since they are a sample of the amalgamation of flavors from all over Germany.
A suggestion: patience when waiting for the service, do not get irritated by it, since you surely already know that in Berlin and Brandenburg this is not strange at all.

Although, of course, we must warn you that given its location, it is not one of the cheapest places on this list (comparison between price and type of food).
Whenever we think of world food we are left with the impression that only Berlin and the big German cities are the capitals for it, but you will be surprised with all the global options that we find in Potsdam. That is why we return to your center again to recommend Masala Haus, we love its traditional Indian food served by tremendously nice and friendly locals. Their dishes are incredibly cooked, taking into account the different levels of spices and the different vegetarian and vegan options and, added to all this, is their unbeatable economic price, since during the week we can find a menu (which includes a main course and a drink ) for 6 Euros.
If your pocket is tight, this site is perfectly suited to your needs.
This is another of our favorite restaurants in Potsdam, we love its traditional German food, where you can find all the dishes that we have already mentioned and also the variety of craft beers in the city. But we also love that it is in another of our most desirable neighborhoods: in Babelsberg, away from the tourism of the city center and in the middle of the streets of palaces and movie production studios, you come across this little restaurant that is quite a Local cookery dating back to 1896. Potsdamians give it top ratings, so a tremendous choice.
This is probably our top on the list in terms of flavors and prices, it is one of the 3 restaurants in Potsdam that have the reputation of having a Michelin star and, of course, its price does account for it.
Its Prussian cuisine is a fusion with modern and local gourmet cuisine, elevating the traditional concept of Brandenburg food by its chef David Schubert. Everything here has been transferred from the 18th century, including its architecture. It has one of the central locations in the city next to the Alter Markt. If you really want to treat yourself, we recommend that you reserve a table on its patio, since you will undoubtedly enjoy its surroundings.
Our last recommendation has to leave us sweetened and that is why we have chosen this ice cream shop, one of the best valued by Potsdamer citizens, who appreciate and value its great variety of flavors and their smooth texture. For us, its location in the heart of the Dutch Quarter and the format in which they are sold are also incredible, since they are small cones with the flavor of our choice. Let yourself be enchanted, children and adults are equally happy here!
As you have already noticed, Potsdam has a series of tourist attractions accompanied by the best places to taste its incredible local gastronomy and to know and appreciate its flavors in the midst of all the variety that represents the city. You no longer have excuses to have fun wherever you are, just enjoy and let yourself be carried away by our entire selection.
