Zakopane is a town located at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, the highest mountain range in the Polish Carpathian Mountains. Thanks to the breathtaking views, close location to the mountains, culture and traditions of mountaineers, Zakopane became a major destination already years ago, offering visitors a well-developed infrastructure with hotels and sports areas. The city deserves to be called the winter capital of Poland with all its availability of ski slopes and a wide range of winter sports.
We will start our Zakopane and Carpathian Mountains Tour from Krakow in the small village of Chocholów with the traditional wooden buildings of the area, and then continue in the direction of Zakopane. We get off the bus to visit the oldest wooden cemetery in the area and the wooden church that hides one of the portraits of the miraculous Mother of God of Częstochowa. The guide will accompany you to the Gubałówka mountain where the highest inhabited area in Poland and incomparable views are located. Taking a walk along the Gubałówka peak we will reach the Szymoszkowa chairlift or the Gubalówka funicular to descend back to Zakopane. Then, after a break of 1,5h/2h to taste the local dishes or do some shopping the guide will show you the ramps used for the ski jumping championships that take place every year and then the wooden chapel called “Jaszczurówka” located in a spectacular forest setting. After the visit we return to Krakow.
As the tour lasts all day, free time is foreseen in the center of Zakopane to taste the local cuisine in the famous Krupówki street and/or visit the open-air market where you can buy the delicious salty cheese called “oscypek”.
