The capital of the Third Reich and the epicenter of the cold war, the former splendor of the German Empire of the Kaisers and the vibrant capital city of the Federal Republic. Berlin has it all, and during our free walking tour we are going to explore this fascinating and multifaceted legacy together.
During the 3-hour tour we will enter the former imperial splendor of the city, the dark sides of the Nazi dictatorship, the destruction of the World War. Our free tour begins at the emblematic Hackescher Markt, full of bars and restaurants where Berliners usually hang out.
Then we move to the famous Museum Island. We will learn a little more about the dynasty that promoted the culture, architecture and art of this German city: the Hohenzollerns. We will admire the Protestant Cathedral, the Ancient Museum and the Pergamon Museum walking along the scenic banks of the Spree River.
Continuing through the most representative streets, Unter den Linden, we will arrive at the famous Bebel Square, where, upon assuming power, the Nazis burned more than 20,000 books, considering them degenerate and harmful to the Aryan race.
Later we will admire the Gendarmenmarkt (Market of the Gendarmes). It is a spectacular square with the two cathedrals – French and German. True symbols of the religious tolerance policy of the Prussian monarchs.
We continue towards Checkpoint Charlie, taking advantage of this point of prime historical importance to talk about the consequences of the Second World War, the division of Berlin, the construction of the Wall and the Cold War.
Then we will pass through the places with the darkest history that is the former government quarter of the Nazi ministries and the Adolf Hitler bunker. We will walk to the Holocaust Memorial paying homage to the millions of victims killed by the Germans.
