Free tour through the Historic Center of Berlin

Overview

The capital of the Third Reich and the epicenter of the cold war, the former splendor of the German Empire of the Kaisers and the vibrant capital city of the Federal Republic. Berlin has it all, and during our tour we are going to explore this fascinating and multifaceted legacy together.

During the 3-hour tour we will delve into the former imperial splendor of the city, the dark sides of the Nazi dictatorship, the destruction of the World War as well as the impressive reconstruction achieved during the German reunification. Our tour starts at the iconic Hackescher Markt, full of bars and restaurants where Berliners often hang out.

Then we move to the famous Museum Island where we are known by the Hohenzollern dynasty, under which the art, culture and architecture of the city flourished. We will admire the Protestant Cathedral, the Ancient Museum and the Pergamon Museum walking along the scenic banks of the Esprea River.

Continuing through the most representative streets Unter den Linden we will arrive at the famous Plaza Bebel, where when assuming power the Nazis burned more than 20 thousand books considered degenerate and harmful to the Aryan race.

Later we will admire the Gendarmenmarkt (Market of the Gendarmes). It is a spectacular square with the two cathedrals - French and German, where we will learn more about the policy of religious tolerance of the Prussian monarchs.

We continue towards Checkpoint Charlie, taking advantage of this point of prime historical importance to talk about the consequences of the Second World War, the division of Berlin, the construction of the Wall and the Cold War.

Then we will go through the places with the darkest history that is the former government quarter of the Nazi ministries and the Adolf Hitler bunker. We will walk to the Holocaust Memorial paying homage to the millions of victims killed by the Germans.

Finally, we will admire the German parliament - Bundestag with its turbulent history, currently a symbol of German reunification.

The tour converges in front of the Brandenburg Gate, the true emblem of the city, connecting the past with the future of this incredible European capital.
